WeCom and WeChat Consulting for International Companies
QPSoftware helps international companies plan, deploy, integrate and govern WeCom and WeChat in China. From Shanghai, our bilingual team connects the Chinese platforms to your global IT: your CRM, your customer-care platform and your corporate identity. For a European transport and logistics group, we supported the rollout of WeCom to more than 400 employees in China.
Why WeCom needs a plan for international companies
WeChat and WeCom are the backbone of business communication in China. Your teams there talk to customers, partners and colleagues on them every day. Adopting them is essential, and connecting them to the systems of a global company is rarely straightforward. The questions are hard to answer from outside China:
- Which platform and account structure fit your business and its legal entities?
- How do WeCom and WeChat connect to your CRM, your customer-care platform and your identity system?
- How do you meet your security, data protection and audit requirements, under GDPR and under China’s Personal Information Protection Law, when data crosses the border?
- How do you deploy and manage the client across your IT environment, thin clients and terminal servers included, and behind the Great Firewall?
- How do you onboard and support hundreds of employees across regions?
We answer them as a partner based in China that understands both worlds. To see what the platform offers before you decide, our page on WeCom in the Chinese digital ecosystem explains what it does and for whom.
What we do
Strategy and architecture
We assess the WeChat and WeCom options for your business, design the solution and the account architecture, one entity or several, and design how the Chinese platforms connect to your internal systems, such as your CRM or customer-care platform, through APIs or a middleware.
Account setup and governance
We register and verify your WeCom organization with your business license, configure it, and write the usage guidelines and governance rules, including multi-account structures for groups with several legal entities. For a company registered abroad, the WeCom guide to verification for overseas companies sets the conditions; our guide to WeCom registration and verification walks through the steps.
Security, compliance and risk analysis
We map the data flows, define the security controls and the conversation archiving, and support your internal risk assessment and audit. Cross-border transfers of personal information follow the PIPL and the 2024 provisions on cross-border data flows of the Cyberspace Administration of China: we document how your setup meets them, so your security and compliance teams can approve the deployment with confidence.
Identity and integration
We provision users between Microsoft Entra ID and WeCom, build the middleware and the API integrations, and connect the Chinese platform to your global identity and business systems. The WeCom customer contact API, for example, lets employees add customers’ WeChat accounts as contacts and lets your CRM read them, as our CRM development team does for sales teams in China.
Deployment and IT support
We deploy the WeCom client, including MSI packaging for thin-client, terminal-server and VDI environments, manage storage and performance behind the Great Firewall, and control the versions your employees run.
Onboarding and documentation
We write bilingual user guides and onboarding procedures, in English and Chinese, and transfer the knowledge to your internal IT and HR teams.
Ongoing advisory and support
You keep an expert partner on the China side for questions, troubleshooting and the evolution of your setup over time.
Example engagement: WeCom for a European logistics group
For a large European transport and logistics group, QPSoftware led the adoption of WeCom for its operations in China. The engagement began with a strategy and architecture phase: how to connect the WeChat and WeCom ecosystem with the group’s in-house customer-care platform. It grew into hands-on support for the rollout to more than 400 employees in China.
Our work covered:
- security and data compliance guidance for the group’s internal risk assessment, GDPR and PIPL cross-border questions included;
- the WeCom account architecture across several legal entities;
- the identity and provisioning options with Microsoft Entra ID;
- the deployment on the group’s thin-client and terminal-server infrastructure.
Together, they bridged the group’s European Microsoft environment with the Chinese WeCom ecosystem.
WeCom, WeChat and the rest of your China setup
WeCom rarely comes alone. When your customers buy or book inside WeChat, our WeChat agency builds the Official Account, the Mini Program or the store they use. When your website must work in China too, our website compliance consulting covers ICP filing, hosting and personal data. Planning to adopt or integrate WeCom or WeChat for your China operations? Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between WeChat and WeCom?
WeChat is the messaging app people use in their private and social life. WeCom (企业微信) is Tencent's platform for companies: an organization registers and verifies itself, manages its employees' accounts, and keeps control of the conversations they hold with customers on WeChat. A company in China often needs both: WeChat to reach consumers, WeCom to run its teams and its customer relationships.
Can a foreign company use WeCom?
Yes. A company registered outside mainland China can register a WeCom organization and have it verified, with conditions and a yearly fee set by WeCom. A group with a Chinese subsidiary usually registers that entity, and groups with several legal entities need an account structure decided before the rollout. We assess the options with you and prepare the registration.
Can WeCom connect to our CRM and to Microsoft Entra ID?
Yes, through WeCom's APIs or a middleware. The customer contact API lets your CRM read the WeChat contacts of your employees with their tags, and user accounts can be provisioned from your corporate directory, such as Microsoft Entra ID, so that people joining or leaving are handled once. We design the integration with your IT team and document it.
Is WeCom compatible with GDPR and China's PIPL?
It can be deployed in a compliant way, but it needs work before the rollout. Customer data collected in China falls under the PIPL, and sending it to systems abroad is a cross-border transfer with its own rules. We map the data flows, document the security controls and archiving, and give your security and compliance teams what they need for their risk assessment.
